PCOE 5901 Ohio’s Seven Standards for Teaching
Fall 2017-2018

Workshop Description: This online professional development workshop is an adaptation of a workshop originally developed by a team of educators from the Southeast Ohio Teacher Development Collaborative (SEO-TDC). It is comprised of three modules that focus on Ohio’s Standards for the Teaching Profession (OSTP). The Introduction and three Modules are self-paced and completed in a consecutive manner. Upon completion of the 15 clock hours of online facilitated learning and assignments of the workshop, participants receive a Certificate of Completion and are eligible for 1 semester hour graduate credit from Ohio University. The Modules and overarching topics follow:

  • Module I: The Focus of Teaching and Learning;
  • Module II: The Conditions for Teaching and Learning; and
  • Module III: Teaching as a Profession.

PCOE 5902 Supporting Ohio’s Continuum of Teacher Development
Fall 2017 – 2018

Workshop Description: This online professional development workshop is an introduction to mentoring, designed to support cooperating teachers and building administrators, who are actively involved in the mentoring of pre-service teacher candidates. The workshop is comprised of three self-paced modules, designed to assist mentors in the preparation of teacher candidates during early field, clinical field, and/or the professional internship. Based on the Ohio Standards for the Teaching Profession, the Continuum describes teachers’ progression throughout the course of their careers. At the completion of the 15 clock hours of online facilitated learning and assignments of the workshop, participants receive a Certificate of Completion and are eligible for 1 semester hour graduate credit from Ohio University. The Modules and overarching topics follow:

  • Module I: Mentoring 101
  • Module II: Mentoring Across the Continuum
  • Module III: Developmental Mentoring Styles

 

PCOE 5903 Mentoring Teacher Candidates
Spring 2017-2018

Workshop Description: During this workshop, teachers will examine various approaches to mentoring field experiences for teacher candidates. Discussions will address topics such as planning and goal setting, getting teacher candidates involved, and encouraging reflection. In addition, the requirements of different field experiences will be discussed. Finally, special attention will be given to the utilization of teacher candidates to increase instructional opportunities for students and personal growth opportunities for teachers. At the completion of the 15 clock hours of online facilitated learning and assignments of the workshop, participants receive a Certificate of Completion and are eligible for 1 semester hour graduate credit from Ohio University. The Modules and overarching topics follow:

  • Module I: Planning and Setting Goals
  • Module II: Getting Teacher Candidates Involved
  • Module III: Encouraging Reflection

 

PCOE 5904 Co-Teaching in P-12 Schools
Spring 2017 – 2018

Workshop Description: The purpose of this 5-module workshop is for educators to learn how to use teacher candidates to develop innovative strategies for improving student learning in K-12 classrooms. A primary outcome of the workshop will be the development of projects that can be used as exemplars for other mentor teachers. At the completion of the 15 clock hours of online facilitated learning and assignments of the workshop, participants receive a Certificate of Completion and are eligible for 1 semester hour graduate credit from Ohio University. The Modules and overarching topics follow:

  • Module I: Differentiating for Individual Students
  • Module II: Differentiating for Groups of Students
  • Module III: Mentor Teachers Differentiating Instruction
  • Module IV: Collaborating to Develop a New Unit
  • Module V: Development of Teacher Candidates in a Co-Teaching Model

 

PCOE 5905 Internship & Resident Educator Experiences
Summer 2017 – 2018

Workshop Description: This online professional development workshop focuses on the role of mentoring during teacher preparation and orients candidates to the preparation for Resident Educator Experiences. The Continuum of Teacher Development, Ohio’s Seven Standards for the Teaching Profession, the edTPA (Teacher Preparation Assessment) and the RESA (Resident Educator Summative Assessment) are addressed. Research on the role, qualities, and benefits of mentoring that apply to all stages of teacher development is presented. Relevant resources are provided in the form of handouts and links to professional sites. Three self-paced modules are completed in a consecutive manner. At the completion of the 15 clock hours of online facilitated learning and assignments of the workshop, participants receive a Certificate of Completion and are eligible for 1 semester hour graduate credit from Ohio University. The Modules and overarching topics follow:

  • Module I: Educators & Mentors
  • Module II: The Professional Internship Experience
  • Module III: Orienting to the Resident Educator Experience

 

PCOE 5906 Professionalism and Teacher Leadership
Summer 2017 – 2018

Workshop Description: This online professional development workshop focuses on working with teacher candidates to support their growing capacities in professionalism and teacher leadership. OSTP Standard 7: Professional Responsibility and Growth is explored for the purposes of modeling and scaffolding a deep understanding of ethics, policies, operating standards, and legal codes of professional conduct for teacher candidates; engaging in continuous, purposeful professional development; and becoming an agent of change. Criteria for teacher leadership are investigated to identify opportunities that impact teacher quality, school improvements, and student achievement. At the completion of the 15 clock hours of online facilitated learning and assignments of the workshop, participants receive a Certificate of Completion and are eligible for 1 semester hour graduate credit from Ohio University. The Modules and overarching topics follow:

  • Module I: OSTP Standard 7: Professional Responsibility and Growth
  • Module II: Teacher Leadership
